Today’s edition of “7 Questions With…” comes to us from the true birthplace of Little Soya…Las Vegas! Jason Terry plays a key role in our continued growth, helping to get Little Soya in all your favorite West Coast restaurants and stores. He brings over 20 years of experience in the Food & Beverage industry to our company, and he’s truly an invaluable asset to the Little Soya team.

1.       What do you do here at Little Soya?

I am the SVP of Global Accounts for the West Coast.  I keep our current customers happy, our current distributors happy, and am constantly trying to find ways to get our amazing soy sauce in the mouths of millions of people.

2.       What 3 words would use to describe yourself?

Driven, passionate, intuitive

3.       What do you like to do in your free time?

Free time for me is spent with my fiancée and my son.  Also love to be outdoors as much as I possibly can with camping, snowboarding, dirt biking, and running.

4.       Do you have any special talents?

Special talents…..hmmm.  Well I think that I have a very keen sense of being able to read people better than most – I attribute it to being in the F&B business for 20+ years with the customer service always a priority.

5.       What is something interesting that your co-workers don’t know about you?

Something interesting about me that coworkers don’t know is that I am going to be a dad again around March of next year!!

6.       What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever tried Little Soya on?

The weirdest thing that I ever tried Little Soya on was a sweet Mango and damn it was tasty!

7.       What is your favorite thing to put Little Soya on?

I love Little Soya on fish tacos!

The Ultimate Labor Day Recipe: Little Soya Sizzling Beef Fajitas

Labor Day is upon us, and that means it’s time for one last summer bash. Labor Day and cookouts go hand in hand. What better way to spend a relaxing day off than enjoying some delicious food and drinks with your family and friends? And when it comes to satisfying the meat lovers at your party, there’s no better way to knock their socks off than with a Little Soya inspired meal.

Our Little Soya Sizzling Beef Fajitas are sure to steal the show at your Labor Day party. The Little Soya based marinade perfectly brings out the best flavors in the grilled beef (note: you can substitute chicken for this recipe).

Here’s how we like to make them:



3 pounds outside skirt steak

1/3 cup margarine

2 medium Spanish onions, cut into 1/4-inch julienne slices

4 medium green peppers, cut into 1/4-inch julienne slices

1 teaspoon seasoning salt

1 pound tomatoes, cut into wedges

Lemon wedges



2 1/2 cups Little Soya gluten-free soy sauce

1 1/4 cups water

1 1/4 cups white vinegar

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 teaspoon white pepper

Combine soy sauce, water, vinegar, garlic and pepper in large container. Whip with wire whisk until well mixed.



Place meat in shallow pan. Pour Little Soya marinade over and let marinate in refrigerator 3 hours.

Remove meat from Little Soya marinade and cut into 1/2×3-inch strips. Melt margarine in large skillet. Add onions, green peppers and seasoning salt and sauté until vegetables are tender.

Place meat in large cast-iron skillet and sear over medium heat. Remove from skillet when browned. Place another iron skillet upside down over high flame. Heat almost to point of smoking, about 90 seconds.

Remove hot serving skillet from burner and pile with meat strips and vegetables. Place tomato wedges over meat and vegetables. Garnish with lemon wedges. Makes 6 servings.


Variation: For Chicken Fajitas, use 3 pounds chicken breasts. Marinate and cut according to recipe for beef fajitas. Prepare as for beef, but baste chicken with sauce while sautéing.

1 1/4 cups orange juice

1 teaspoon granulated garlic

Dash oregano


Ta-da! You’re all done! Now, just sneak a few bites, you know, just to make sure it tastes as delicious as it smells. Serve it up with some tortillas, and you’re all set!

Even if your child isn’t on a gluten-free diet, Little Soya’s cute little fish packets can inspire some really fun and tasty lunchbox ideas for your kids.

We really love this simple lunch box sushi recipe from Sandra’s Easy Cooking. It’s a great change of pace from the typical, boring sandwich, and a fun, tasty way for your kids to get their fruits and veggies. Add a packet of Little Soya to the mix, and your kids will be the envy of the cafeteria! (Tip: Don’t have the time or patience to make sushi? You can get pre-made sushi from your local grocery store and pack it with an ice pack in the lunch bag so it will last until lunch time. Don’t forget the Little Soya!)

Or if your kid isn’t a sushi lover, how about this neat idea from Lunch Box Blues? It’s brown rice, sausage, and soy sauce with a side of star fruit, blueberries, and a peanut butter sandwich on graham crackers. Talk about delicious!

This is how You Celebrate Your Soy Sauce Getting Launched into Space!

For months now, the buzz has been building for Little Soya’s launch on the Ariane 5, ATV-5 spacecraft delivering supplies to astronauts and cosmonauts on the International Space Station. When it finally came time for Little Soya to make history by becoming the first gluten-free soy sauce to blast off into space, we celebrated in grand fashion with not one but TWO launch parties. Hey, it’s not every day you get to launch your product into space, so we busted out the big guns and let the good times roll!

With the launch originally scheduled for the evening of Thursday, July 24, we made plans for a huge bash at Hughes Hangar on the popular Washington Ave. in Houston, Texas. As the launch date approached, we received word for the ESA in Paris that actual launch would be postponed a few days for various reasons, but that didn’t stop us from throwing one heck of a pre-launch party!

The event drew a huge crowd of Little Soya fans, media members, and of course, Little Soya employees and their loved ones. All were there to celebrate Little Soya’s historic achievement as well as to enjoy a keynote speech from a real NASA astronaut. The festivity was covered by local ABC News, Houston Chronicle, local Channel 55, and a host of other media outlets.

On July 29, 2014 at 6:47 pm (CDT), Little Soya made history by becoming the first gluten-free soy sauce to be launched into space. Once again, everyone gathered to celebrate the momentous occasion. This time, The De Gaulle in Houston was the site of the party. The beautiful Parisian-themed lounge was the perfect setting to watch the Ariane 5, ATV-5 rocket launch our gluten-free soy sauce packets into space, some 220 miles above the Earth. Those who couldn’t make it tuned in online to watch the launch from around the world.

But it’s more than just a tagline – it’s a promise. Here’s something you might not have known. Not only is Little Soya the preferred gluten-free soy sauce of some of the world’s top chefs, but it has also won the hearts of some of the most innovative and skilled mixologists. Today, we’re proud to share the recipe to one of the hottest new Little Soya-inspired cocktails – the Little Soya Cobbler. Little Soya Cobbler

1.5 oz. byejoe Red

1 barspoon Little Soya soy sauce

0.5 oz. Rich Turbinado Syrup

Squeeze and drop 1 Key lime into shaker

Squeeze and drop Half a Mandarin into shaker

1 peach wedge into shaker

2 large black berries into shaker

Shake very hard

Strain over crushed ice and garnish with leftover fruit


Oh yeah, there’s one more step we almost forgot: ENJOYA!

We told you 2014 was going to be a huge year for Little Soya. From launching our all-new website to preparing to launch Little Soya to the International Space Station, things are really starting to take off around here (no pun intended)! But we’re not slowing down. Today, we’re proud to announce another historic venture that Little Soya is taking part in. Together with the Sushi Club of Houston and Kubo’s Sushi Bar & Grill, we are thrilled to announce that Little Soya is co-sponsoring free dinners at the world’s most legendary sushi chef Jiro Ono’s restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro in Japan.

Jiro Ono, the 89-year-old sushi master, was the subject of the 2011 documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Simply put, his sushi is the best in the world. Sushi lovers flock from all over the world to Ono’s restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro in Japan to grab one of those 10 coveted seats and enjoy a meal of a lifetime.

The restaurant, hidden in the subway, offers diners only one item – the omakase course, which contains 20 pieces of sushi carefully prepared by hand and served one at a time. That means no appetizers, no rolls. Just fresh fish and rice with a little seasoning and perhaps some soy sauce or a nikiri. The meal runs between $300 and $400 per person, a price diners are glad to fork over for the chance to be one of Ono’s customers. Simply put, it’s the Holy Grail of the sushi world, and precious few of us will ever get to enjoy it.

That’s why when Carl Rosa, President of the Sushi Club of Houston and tour guide to Japan, approached Little Soya with the idea of sponsoring a free dinner at Sukiyabashi Jiro for tourists attending Rosa’s 2014 guided trips to Japan, we jumped at the opportunity.

7 Questions with Founder & CEO Gary T. Murphy

Last month, we launched our new series “7 questions with…” Every month, we’ll be shining the spotlight on one our star team members at Little Soya, giving you the chance to get to know them a little better.

Today, we’re talking to the main man himself, Gary Murphy – the Founder, President, and CEO of Little Soya. Or as we like to call him around here, The Soy King. Gary founded Little Soya back in 2009 when the luxurious Caesar’s Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas challenged his old china sourcing company Arisa Global to find them little fish-shaped soy sauce packets. Inspired by his mom’s recommendation to capitalize on the popularity of the unique fish-shaped soy sauce packets, he started Little Soya, and the rest is history.

So, without further ado, here are 7 Questions with Gary Murphy!


What do you do here at Little Soya?

Well, officially I’m the Founder, President & CEO.  But when friends and those close to me ask what I do, I generally say, I sell soy sauce.  And when friends ask “How’s it going?” My standard, but very true answer is, “Still slangin’ the soy.”  At its core, my job and my passion is to build and create the best tasting gluten free soy sauce on this planet.


What 3 words would use to describe yourself?

Dedicated. Sincere. Determined.


What do you like to do in your free time?

You want the short version?  OK, how exciting is this, I call it “Letting my brain rest.” That means doing nothing.  Well, that could be going to watch an independent film at Houston’s River Oaks Theatre or Sundance downtown, or it could be just watching a comedy movie with my beautiful sister Gena on a lazy Sunday afternoon.  Often, it’s truly just spending time with family.  I call it, Family First.


Do you have any special talents?

Umm… I can make a pretty good dinosaur walk out of my double jointed fingers.  Oh you mean, real talents?  Uh, let me think.  The pressure the pressure [if you can guess what movie that quote is from, send your answer to Ericka@LittleProductsCo.com to win a free pack of Little Soya and a kiss from Crystal]. Where were we? Oh yeah, back to talents.  I’m a people person. I have the ability to connect with anyone, be it a bike courier, entry level mail room guy, heavy metal rocker, male, female, young, old, up to the Chairman and CEO of the largest Fortune 500 company in the world.


What is something interesting that your co-workers don’t know about you?

I saved a sea turtle from near death on my last trip to Tulum, Mexico.  He was trapped for hours about 100 yards from the ocean.  Me, a hotel security guard and a server at the restaurant each spent about an hour together, one on each side of this massive 200lb turtle, helping him, inch by inch, free himself from a hole.  Then we watched him slowly but surely waddle back into the ocean. Oh, and I was also a licensed Private Investigator in my other life for about 9 years.


What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever tried Little Soya on?

I tried Little Soya in my cereal once… on ice cream [hey that was good]… in my beer a time or two!


What is your favorite thing to put Little Soya on?

Okay, don’t laugh, pizza! Really it just changes the flavor of any pizza slice instantly.  I also love to put it on pasta, and probably my all-time favorite is to marinate any kind of beef for an hour or two before cooking. Lather those babies up and cook!  Then coat each side once during cooking, and add a dash or two when it’s done!
